Lost In A Cave
(Published on 31. March 2023, 01:35 by Scojo)
This puzzle was originally set in March 2022 for the Cracking the Cryptic Discord's monthly prompt of "Maps and Plans."
Rules:
- Normal sudoku rules apply.
- Shade some cells as walls so that all non-wall cells are orthogonally connected and each orthogonally connected section of wall cells touches the edge of the grid.
- Draw a path through some non-wall cells that connects the green starting cell to the red exit cell. The path moves orthogonally from one cell to the next and may not touch itself, even diagonally.
- A digit in a circle is on the path and represents the total number of non-wall cells seen from that cell, including itself, and also represents the number of wall cells in the up to 8 surrounding cells. A cell can see in a straight line vertically and horizontally until the line of sight reaches a wall or the edge of the grid.
- A digit in a square represents both the number of path cells and the number of wall cells in its box.
- No 2x2 area in the grid may be entirely wall or non-wall.
- The digits 8 and 9 are always wall cells.
- All possible circles and squares are given.

I think 90% of the challenge for me was wrapping my head around the rules! After that, a smooth, challenging solve.
