- Normal irregular 7x7 Sudoku rules apply, i.e. each row, column and region has to contain the digits from 1 to 7.
- Palindrome: Digits on a grey line form a palindrome, i.e. they read the same forward and backward.
- Killer cages: Digits in a cage do not repeat and sum to the clue in the top left.
- Diagonals: On the main diagonals digits do not repeat.
Here you can solve the puzzle online:
Solution code: Row 2 followed by Column 6, from left to right resp. from top to bottom (14 digits in total)

changed sudokupad solving link to include solution check (many thanks to garycblack for providing that link!), no changes to the contents of the puzzle

The lettering comment helped me out a lot. I had to get a pen out for the math at the end XD.

Incredible how taking the right approach (hinted at in the comments) suddenly makes this approachable. Thanks!

I used coloring but had to restart after messing it up. Took a bit longer than you'd expect of a 7x7 sudoku. 10 minuts for me.
**
Thank you for your comment, KingIsulgard! Using colouring was definitely a good idea. I think there is not too much chance to get something done with the cages immediately. I hope you had a fun solve.

I loved this. At first I was stuck. I convinced myself there was no way to place a number without coloring. So I started that. It got to be a huge mess. Then I read the comments and they mentioned using letters. I had never used this technique but once I started that path it because obvious how to solve it. Thanks for the puzzle.

You are welcome, dakamojo, thank you for your comment! I am glad that you enjoyed the solve and it is nice that using letters helped you. I think the main difficulty with the colouring is the question where to start. When setting I often use letters as well.

Very nice! Glad to see others using the lettering method. Very smooth solve that way, and so fun to double-click a letter and replace them 7 at a time.
**
Thank you for your comment, anyeyeball! I am glad that you enjoyed the puzzle and had a smooth solve. And I completely agree: It somehow feels very satisfying to put in all of one digit at the same time.

Great little puzzle. Enjoyed it immensely!

Thank you for your kind comment, Blobz! Since I was inspired by some of your variant sudokus to set smaller puzzles myself, it means a lot to me that you liked this one.

I agree this is rather a 2/5 star puzzle, instead of 1/5. I didn't read any comments, stared at the puzzle and finally thought of colouring the cells. That helped solving :-) Thanks for the puzzle, I did enjoy it!
**
Thank you for your comment, Cyrion! I agree with your assessment of difficulty. To use colouring is probably the best way to approach it. But even then one should start in the "right places". Anyway, I am glad that you enjoyed the solve.

Parallel lines have so much in common. It's a shame they'll never meet.
I stared at this many times. Looking at the comments, I decided to try using letters, and it was an easy solve. I think if I'd used colors it would have been much more difficult. And trying to use numbers, not possible for me. So as with many things in life, the difficulty depended on the approach.
**
Thank you for the comment, RussKozerski! It is also possible to use colours but I think it might be not so obvious where the useful starting point for colouring is. Anyway, I am glad that using letters turned out to be helpful for you.

That's not one star. I am feeling lucky I looked at the right cell. Nice symmetry and arrangement though. Full marks there.

Hey puzzlepandit, thank you for your comment! I am glad that you liked the arrangement of the puzzle. I also agree that the difficulty should be closer to 2/5, but be that as it may.

I’d agree with another commenter that this is not a 1-star puzzle. In the end I used letters rather than colours, and once I did that I found my way to the solution fairly quickly.
**
Thank you for your comment, Something Wellesian! During setting puzzles, I also often use letters instead of colours.
Nice that it helped you solving.
