Build Your Own Arrows

(Published on 22. March 2023, 16:23 by Joseph nehme)

Rules:

- Normal Sudoku rules apply.

- Normal Arrow rules apply: Digits along an arrow stem must sum to the digit inside the head circle. However, as you can see, there are no arrow stems and there are no circle heads. Instead, There are colored dots inside the grid. Each 2 same colored dots belong to the same arrow stem. The solver must figure out the arrow stems directions that connect the 2 same colored dots (No restriction on number of cells on an arrow stem). Furthermore, the solver must deduce the location of the head circle where the sum is located. Arrow stems can form any type of line. Each head circle only has 1 arrow stem coming out of it.

Very nice breezy puzzle! Although it's fairly easy, it has interesting moments throughout and never feels routine. Here's a SudokuPad version: https://sudokupad.app/69yky9a8ve

@QuiltyAsCharged Thank you :)

Really enjoyed it. I laughed at the amount of 78 pairs I had. But I realized a while later I had one of those digits sitting in a purple highlighted cell making it almost invisible.

I spent 20 minutes backtracking thinking I made a mistake, only to realize I had assumed an arrow's direction, and wasn't wrong at all.

@yoboo Thank you :)

Can the same cell be part of more than one stem?

@dennischen No it cannot.

This looked very daunting at first, but seeing someone else call it a "very smooth", I decided to give it a try. It was a head scratcher for me, at several points, but I always found a way through it.

@Ryx Yea it's not a hard puzzle although it looks scary.

Once I realized that neither of the dots in a pair is an arrow circle, life became much easier to go on for me. Very smooth resolution throughout the solve! :)

@Playmaker6174 Thank you.
