Hybrid Star Battle Series (011) - Tapa

(Published on 19. March 2023, 19:15 by BenceJoful)

Intro

For this Hybrid Star Battle Series I will be sharing a new puzzle each week combining Star Battle with another puzzle genre. This week's genre is Tapa. There have been a few takes on this hybrid before, as is natural for two such great genres. I hope that the twist I put on it is enjoyable, and (as always) just a little bit novel.

Rules

Standard Tapa and Star Battle rules apply, plus Tapa clues belong to one region each.

  • Tapa: Shade some cells so that all shaded cells form one orthogonally connected area. Clues cannot be shaded, and represent the lengths of the blocks of consecutive shaded cells in the (up to) eight cells surrounding the clue. No 2x2 region may be entirely shaded.
    • Variant: Regions of unshaded cells contain exactly one clued cell.
  • Star Battle: Place stars into some unshaded cells such that each row, column, and unshaded region contains exactly 2 stars. Stars may not touch one another, not even diagonally.
