View sudoku on f-puzzles (
SPOILER ALERT: Fog is not shown on f-puzzles, so all clues are visible)
Try a smaller practice puzzle first!
This is our revision of the original
Foghqwhgads, which begins the same but takes a different path after the first handful of digits. Please see the
solution guide for the original if you require help with the break in - I'm afraid you're on your own for the rest of this one though!
We made this second version for three main reasons: it avoids a somewhat bifurcatory step that existed in the original; it maintains a more consistent difficulty where the original had a few uncharacteristically "easy" deductions (sorry not sorry!); and it removes all overlapping lines and therefore the ruleset can become much more concise.
Normal sudoku rules apply.
"Fog of war": The grid is covered in fog, which will lift to reveal clues as correct digits are entered.
"Filler": Shade some cells such that each digit in row 1 (top) indicates the count of shaded cells in its column, and each digit in column 1 (far left) indicates the count of shaded cells in its row. E.g. a 3 in r1c8 indicates that there are 3 shaded cells in column 8.
"Yin Yang": All shaded cells must form one orthogonally connected region, as must all unshaded cells, and no 2x2 square can consist of only shaded or only unshaded cells.
"Balancer lines": Along balancer lines, the sum of the digits in shaded cells equals the sum of the digits in unshaded cells. The lines do not branch or overlap.
Solution code: Row 9 (bottom row)

Crazy hard, amazing rule set, and brilliant logic throughout. Felt like I had to work hard for every deduction. 10/10!

Excellent puzzle! The revision turned it into a whole new experience. Hopefully this one will get many more solves, because it deserves it.Thank you and your father so much!
