Friendly and angry palindromes / Freundliche und zornige Palindrome

(Published on 28. February 2023, 01:11 by Ryx)

Angry digits - on colored lines, digits cannot match their row, column or box number. In other words, R3C2 cannot be a 3, 2 or 1.

Each colored group/pair of lines are segments that form a palindrome (numbers read the same front to back, i.e. 123 21 or 12 33 21).

Digits along colored lines are the same digit on either side of a box crossing. (i.e. R3C1 and R4C2 are the same digit)

Friendly digits - on non-colored palindromes (grey lines), digits must match at least one of the row, column or box numbers that the palindrome occupies. Friendly palindrome segments stand alone do not combine with others.

Digits may repeat along all palindromes, if permitted by other constraints

Thermometer - digits must increase from the bulb end

Before I comment on this puzzle, let me first thank Logic Masters Germany for this great portal, Sven for the CTC app, Ryx for setting this beautiful puzzle.
Now to puzzle. I broke it trice, which low for an Ryx work. So nothing to complain about. So I decided to rely more on doing sudoku to clarify the rules for me.
Second comment is that always remember that a 2 star difficulty assignment from this author is more like 3.5-4 in reality.
Jury verdict- this is worthy for Mark's CTC channel.
Great puzzle.

@ Fisherman - Thank you for the kind words. Sounds like you rate puzzles like I do, one star per restart ;-) This one was a new idea for me, so a little hard to gauge the difficulty. I will bump it up a notch. I am doing another, very similar puzzle for this month's Discord puzzle prompt. I think it is much better than this one, in that:
- it is more visually appealing (only two colors)
- is 100% symmetrical
- only friendly/enemy constraint, no thermos neeeded

I'm feeling like I don't understand how the pink line in col 4 r1/r2 of box 2 can be a palindrome of any sort since digits cannot repeat in a box? I can understand how they would be angry digits.

@ erik - it is a segment and joins with the other pink segment (in boxes 3 and 6). Together they form a 5 cell palindrome.

Updated rules to clarify friendly palindromes do not combine with other friendly palindromes.

It took me a while to realize the distinction in the rules about grey vs colored lines: grey segments are palindromes on their own (they do not combine into a palindrome) and their friendliness is on the segment level (any digit on a grey palindrome line must be friendly in at least one cell that grey palindrome line visits - not necessarily the cell the number is in). I broke the puzzle multiple times assuming the only difference between grey and color was friendly/angry.
