Glyphs #5

(Published on 23. February 2023, 23:55 by damasosos92)

Thanks to SudokuHero and Niverio for testing the puzzle and for their patience.

The last (probably forever) puzzle of the Glyphs series. I had this idea in mind already when I was setting #4, but it took me a whole month to complete.

Rules:
Sudoku rules: fill the grid with the numbers from 1 to 9 so that in each row, column, and 3x3 block each digit occurs exactly once.

Draw a single line connecting 29 different cells in the grid that starts and ends with the two tips shown on the grid. The line can reach a cell in the border of the grid only at the start or at the end of its path. The line cannot intersect itself and cannot branch.

No 2x2 in the grid can be entirely covered by the line or entirely not-reached.

Adjacent digits on the line must be consecutive.

In cages, the digits on the line sum to the cage total.

Glyphs #5 is also available online on F-Puzzles and on CTC-App.

Have fun solving and leave a comment if you want!

Solution code: Row 5, left to right!

I found the puzzle from CTC and usually I just watch but I got the urge to try the puzzle for myself and after a couple of hours I could prove the lines path and it felt immensely satisfying. Thank you for the puzzle! Thanks to you I’m hooked!

Once you wrap your head around the logic involved then this puzzle is smooth sailing from there. Not hard at all.

man, took quite a bit of putzing around to come to the sensible thought that got things moving, but it was very satisfying once thought! and the intricate geometry that followed was also a delight

Brilliant! Doesn't at all play into my strengths as a solver. But this was completely worth it. Thanks so much for setting this!

Challenging but fair, I had fun with this, thanks!

Very enjoyable. Has going for it that early feeling that it can't be solved, followed by a series of small & reasonable deductions that light the way forward.

About halfway through, there is a "shortcut" (which you will likely see) for people comfortable with rather significant branching, which would probably reduce the difficulty of this puzzle to a 4/5, but also misses out on some interesting logic.
