Modesty (Equalines Sudoku)

(Published on 21. February 2023, 09:16 by Mad-Tyas)

I made a lot puzzles using the Equalines ruleset and at one point I came up with the question:
What is the minimum number of cells on lines required to achieve a unique solution with this ruleset?
This puzzle is the result of a long, intense search and uses only 31 cells on lines. It offers a completely logical and varied solution path.
The puzzle is created without computer support and therefore probably does not show the actual minimum. I would be happy if someone feels challenged and tries to beat my 31 ;-)

Rules:

Sudoku: Fill every row, column and marked 3x3 box with the digits 1-9.

Equalines: On each line the digits add up to the same total that has to be determined by the solver. Digits may repeat on a line if allowed by sudoku rules.

Have fun solving!

Solution code: Row 1 followed by column 1 (18 digits)

What a super elegant puzzle for such seemingly minimal design! The moment that I could finally deduce the total was certainly the best part of the solve :)

-Reply: Thank you for this nice comment, Playmaker! I'm glad you enjoyed the puzzle.
