(9x9) Border Indexer: Sum #1
(Published on 15. February 2023, 08:00 by Playmaker6174)
The following puzzle should come down as a bit little surprise, as this one uses an idea that appeared on my
latest 6x6 pack.
I really don't expect this one to blow up, but maybe the start will be interesting enough to receive some love. The second one shall combine this idea with some other variants, but that's for the future and for now here's the first one :)
It's a tricky one, but no deduction should be so hard to spot either. I hope you enjoy!
Rules:
- Normal Sudoku rules apply: every row, column and 3x3 box contains digits from 1 to 9 each once.
- Let X be the value of the cell that's next to an outside clue, then that clue shows the sum of cells that share the Xth border counting from the direction of that clue in its row/column.
If X is 9, the clue is instead the value of the furthest cell from that clue.
To demonstrate how the rule works, here's an example:

Good luck and have fun solving!

Very nice puzzle and an interesting ruleset, the choice of clues is top-notch!
Clearly have the potential to be combined with other variants!
