X's and O's - a Valentine Sandwich

(Published on 14. February 2023, 11:27 by RockyRoer)

This is the latest in my "Sandwiches Without Givens" series.

The Rules:

  1. Normal sudoku rules apply.
  2. [X's and O's] Every row or column that contains hearts contains two hearts - one is an X which separates two cells that must sum to 10. The other is an o which must separate two cells with a difference of 1. The solver must determine which is which.
  3. [Sandwich] Numbers outside the grid indicate the sum of the digits between the 1 and 9 in that row or column.

Lovely puzzle. (And for what it's worth, I'm one person who DOES like constructors providing links to similarly themed puzzles. So I hope you find a way of doing that without annoying other people :) )

Nice and fun puzzle! I concur that this is ~2*.

Are you sure the difficulty needs to be upgraded, as opposed to downgraded? Because the other comment is ambiguous, and for me it's only 2⅓.

Reply: Lol... my initial thoughts were between 2-3 stars. Look like i totally misread bansalaab's comment. I think i was thrown off by earlier comments about how the puzzle was presented and overreacted too quickly with edits. Looks like the difficulty has settled back down to 3 -- and maybe will eventually become 2 stars... Thanks again for all the solving/testing/commenting you've done -- you're a valuable advisor to my creating process!

This definitely wasn't 3* for me. Opening was hard but after that every Deduction was beautiful.

You are completely on fire these days! What a gorgeous construction!

Hi rockyroer, your puzzles are always well thought through, but in the discussions of flaws in puzzle presentation, ratings and so on in the forum, some people mentioned that they dislike long lists of links to different puzzles for promotion, especially if it is presented before the puzzle. A better option for your list might be to just post a link to a search for puzzles by you that are tagged as "Sandwich (variant)" (although that might contain a few outliers not in the series):
