Hybrid Star Battle Series (006) - Aquarium

(Published on 12. February 2023, 23:24 by BenceJoful)

Intro

For this Hybrid Star Battle Series I will be sharing a new puzzle each week combining Star Battle with another puzzle genre. This week's genre is Aquarium. I believe this combination was suggested to me on the CTC Community discord, but I can't find the suggestion now. If it was you, let me know! And anyone can always let me know what combination they think could be interesting :)

Rules

Standard Star Battle rules and almost standard Aquarium rules apply.

  • Star Battle: Place 2 stars in each row, column, and outlined region. Stars may not touch one another, not even diagonally.
  • Aquarium: Fill some cells with water (shading) so that within each region, cells which are in the same row are either all full or all empty. When a row of cells within a region is filled with water, all cells below that row in that region must be filled as well.
    • Variant: Outside clues represent the number of submerged (shaded) stars in the corresponding row or column.

2-star Example (Penpa+ link):

Solution code: For each column, give the length of each set of consecutive water cells, followed by the number of submerged stars in those cells. If desired, you can leave spaces between each pair of numbers. In the above 2-star example, the solution code is 52 50 21 21 20 20 21 00 00 21.

lovely puzzle. I gave it 4/5 for difficulty because I had to use somewhat tricky logic from both rule sets. very fun puzzle, thanks for setting.

Lovely puzzle, but that solution code... woof

Bence: yeahhhhhh. This was in my "don't ask for specific row and column information" phase. Not a great look. Thanks for playing anyway!

Very good combination. And two playable examples! Thank you :) A suggestion: Easy as ABC(DE...), two of the letters are stars, but you do not tell us which two. Same with skyscrapers, maybe. These just popped into my mind... I don't know if it works well together :)
