Try a smaller practice puzzle first!
Everybody to the limit

Normal sudoku rules apply.

"Fog of war": The grid is covered in fog, which will lift to reveal clues as correct digits are entered.

"Filler": Shade some cells such that each digit in row 1 (top) indicates the count of shaded cells in its column, and each digit in column 1 (far left) indicates the count of shaded cells in its row. E.g. a 3 in r1c8 indicates that there are 3 shaded cells in column 8.

"Yin Yang": All shaded cells must form one orthogonally connected region, as must all unshaded cells, and no 2x2 square can consist of only shaded or only unshaded cells.

"Balancer lines": Along balancer lines, the sum of the digits in shaded cells equals the sum of the digits in unshaded cells. The lines do not branch. All lines are red, except when two lines share a cell, in which case one of the overlapping lines is coloured purple. Lines only overlap at points, i.e. no entire line segments are hidden underneath an overlapping line.

Solution code: Row 5, left to right

Well this was a tricky one! Really nice puzzle, I solved it without having tried the practice puzzle beforehand, seen the solution guide, or played a filler puzzle before!

For me, it was a lot of thinking about how placing digits in spots would break the Yin Yang constraint. I pretty quickly got the first few deductions, but it took me a long time to figure out the orientation around the negative diagonal.

Having just watched the first half of your solution guide, interestingly I found a lot of the same deductions, but later in the puzzle and geometrically rather than numerically. The domino bit I never figured out or needed though, just the requirement for spacing between highly shaded columns/rows.

Looking forward to more filler puzzles, it's a neat ruleset!

Are light switch raves aloud while I solve?

Very much enjoyed the puzzle.

Just seen this comment - thank you! And yes, they are strongly encouraged!!

Great puzzle. The solution guide helped a lot to understand the idea of the rule set.

--

Thank you! Yes it's very hard to solve without understanding certain secrets, though one tester did manage it, which I found very impressive! Still, very glad I made the instruction video.

Don't understand where this <90% rating comes from - this puzzle certainly deserves better.

--

Thank you for your kind words! I don't mean to be arrogant but honestly I'm a little surprised too, as I thought this was possibly the best puzzle I've posted to date. I wonder if it's something to do with the fact that the fog (not to mention the solution guide) makes it quite easy to guess the solution code... The rating's certainly crept up since this comment though so thank you to those raters! :D

What an incredible puzzle! Solving the 4x4 practice puzzle helped a ton.

Thank you! I made a couple of 6x6 puzzles as well but in the end I was just too excited to get the full one out!

I cannot believe I actually finished that but what a beautiful puzzle. A few times I felt like I was cutting corners but hey, "the Cheat is to the limit."

Congrats on the solve and thank you! Hahaha yes, just remember next time you get stuck you should ask your friend Joe and ask your friend Jake!

Fantastic puzzle! I did need to watch the introduction of your solution video, which was great, because the explanation of the basics didn't give away too many spoilers. Without that video I could never have solved the puzzle, which would have been a waste, because as stated this puzzle is absolutely brilliant! Thank you

Thank you for the feedback and congratulations on solving it! We're not sure if the break in is a little too mean, so don't worry about needing the solution guide for that!! But doing it once means that any similar future puzzles should be much easier :)
