Normal-ish sudoku rules apply. However four of the 3x3 boxes are fraudulent and should be completely blacked out from the grid. It is up to the solver to work out which boxes are fake. There should be twelve sets of 1-9 in the completed grid. A set in each row, column and real box.

Thank you 10feet and Jlrice2 for the nice feedback. I've changed the difficulty to 3 stars and added a Penpa link. Penpa does a much better job of covering the fake digits/boxes.

This is a well constructed and inventive puzzle. Perhaps with repetition it gets easier, but I found this to be more like 3.5 for difficulty.

It is an interesting puzzle. Once i found the break in it went pretty smoothly. Took me a while to get a hang of how to approach the start though.
