Chaos Construction: Roller Coaster

(Published on 9. February 2023, 01:18 by KNT)

Place the numbers from 1 to 9 exactly once in every row, column, and region. Each region is orthogonally connected and must be located by the solver.

Draw a non-intersecting loop that travels orthogonally between the centers of some cells in the grid. Clues to the left of rows indicate the sum of numbers on horizontal segments of the loop in that row, in the correct order. Clues above columns indicate the sum of numbers on vertical segments of the loop in that column, in the correct order. A question mark may replace any number from 0-9, but no clue may have a leading zero.

On a single round trip of the loop, every region must be entered and exited exactly once.

A 6x6 example is provided:

This is unbelievable. So many different beautiful logics placed evenly throughout the puzzle... How?!

Amazing ! The fact that so much progress can be made without considering the clues themselves, but by thinking carefully about the overall progress of the puzzle at some key steps, shows how masterfully the whole process has been designed. Thanks a lot !

Awesome puzzle, thanks.

amazing! this opened my eyes to RC, such a lovely hybrid.

Fantastic puzzle, as always, by KNT. Very difficult. Even after the initial break in, it was very difficult. I had to backtrack many a times as new pieces of logic revealed themselves. Thanks a lot for sharing!

Wow, this was awesome! Thanks.

KNT this is an exceptional puzzle! It's brutally difficult and I found the level of difficult consistently high throughout - but certainly not in an unfair way. Just some beautiful interaction between the two rule sets - and an extremely rewarding puzzle to get through eventually. Thanks!

Very happy to solve this as it's way out of my comfort zone as a solver (and i've done precisely zero loop puzzles before). Fantastic construction and I enjoyed it immensely.

Very nice puzzle, maintained its high difficulty from start to finish. Enjoyed the constant mix of loop building and region building logic required to progress in the puzzle.

Absolutely joyful!

This was my first rollercoaster puzzle and you combined it incredibly well with the chaos construction. I loved learning about the ruleset as I solved it. Thank you again!

Really good puzzle!

Relentless puzzle, but ultimately very rewarding. :-)

Roller coaster and chaos constructions are two of my favourite genres and you combined them excellently. Thank you!

What a ride this coaster was. Thanks KNT. I kept making the same mistake of assuming different values for the dots in second column. On my final try before giving up, I realized my mistake and after that it was smooth.

@Jesper I felt similarly when I decided to set it. I feel like a handful of awesome puzzles could be made with this ruleset :)

Brilliant! Such an intuitive way to combine Roller Coaster and Chaos Construction, I am almost wondering why nobody thought of it earlier.

I found the opening very tough, but after the initial breakthroughs the puzzle flowed very well and was a lot of fun.

Loops make my brain go poof!
Very cool puzzle, albeit difficult. Although that's not saying much as I tend to find almost all loop puzzles difficult.

Immensely enjoyable puzzle! Thanks :)

Very cool puzzle, loved the region building logic especially :)

Awesome puzzle as usual!

This is a difficult puzzle, and definitely assumes some proficiency in Roller Coaster logic. I recommend solving with the Penpa+ link, as a variety of careful notation will be of great use during the solve. Good luck, and enjoy the puzzle!
