After my last sudoku puzzle Flux Capacitor, I wanted to set something that actually looked more like the time travelling invention by Emmett Brown. This is what I came up with. I hope this will have enough power to fire up the Delorean !
Thanks to ONeill for testing it!
Rules :
- Normal sudoku rules apply.
- Arrows : digits along an arrow sum to the digit in that arrow's circle.
- Renban : digits on a renban (purple lines) form a set of non repeating consecutive digits in any order.
- German Whispers : digits along a whisper line must differ by at least 5.
- Diagonals : the 2 main diagonals (marked in blue) must each contain the digits 1 to 9 once each.
- The grey circles in R1C1 and R1C9 are odd.
- The grey square in R9C7 is even (the little white rectangle is only cosmetic, to make it look like a switch).

Beautiful puzzle, missed a bit of "pencilmark cleaning" in box 1 & 3 and that slowed me down. But it was fun from the beginning to the end!

Lovely! I haven't watched the movie, but I enjoyed the logic. :)

This was a thoroughly enjoyable puzzle to work through, from start to finish. Excellent stuff.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed :)

The Back to the Future iconic item went right over my head (first and last time I saw the movie was sometime in 87 or 88 in school, never been much of a movie fan), but the pieces of logic in this puzzle were interesting and very well crafted. Thanks and Bravo!

Thanks for the nice feedback !
I had a different experience with that movie, which I probably discovered around the same time as you did. It has always appealed to me, because it dealt with fascinating topics like space-time continuum, temporal paradox, time travel... in a very entertaining way.
But I do get that not so many people would see it that way. That's why I try to insert interesting logic while setting these thematic puzzles, so that it doesn't feel that it was mainly about stuffing geeky references that will only speak to a minority of people. So I'm glad you had a good experience with the logic in there !
------
I will not deny any of what you stated about the movie. I did enjoy its way of dealing with the time travelling paradoxes, and I also thought it was entertaining. Bluntly put, I'd say my real issue with movies are the fact they're movies. For fiction, I personally prefer reading, and when it comes to filmed entities, I usually go with either non-fiction or very short fictions. But I am fully aware I'm an odd ball in that respect. Also, I do appreciate thematic puzzles, regardless of my own enthusiasm for the subject, so please don't consider my comments as critics. They're only my way of stating my inadequacy regarding the theme.

Thanks Nordy ! Glad you liked the ideas I tried to put together in this one.

I really loved the break in and first part of the puzzle.
Had a lot of trouble in the mid-solve, like Xendari it seems.
The design is very cool.

Thanks zegres, glad you liked my flux capacitor :)
And yes, I know this might have been a little smoother in the late midsolve, but every clue I tried adding to achieve this seemed to ruin the design, and the puzzle happened to solve without any more clue and with a "not-too-painful" scanning, so I decided to leave it like that after it got tested.

Great puzzle, "Your kids are gonna love it"

Nice quote Prince Joffrey! "Clues ? Where we're going, we don't need clues !" (Approximate quote)
Thanks for the nice feedback (to the future) !

Loved the interactions of the various constraints! Another great puzzle :)

Thanks mathpesto, glad you liked that !

Fun puzzle, thank you! Felt a little bit lost in the mid-solve, but this was my first solve in a few weeks so I’m probably rusty lol. Very cool use of parity with the renban lines :)
---
Thanks Xendari, I know this puzzle can feel a little disorienting after the midsolve, but I did not want to add more clues to smooth it out because it would have ruined the design. If you liked this one, you might also like the other puzzle which uses similar dynamics but with some different logic in the midsolve.

This was nice and also beautifully designed. Thank you!

Thanks Mad-Tyas, that was a fast first solve ! I will probably make a third puzzle related to "Back to the Future" to complete the trilogy :) To be continued...
