Killer RBC1-6

(Published on 3. February 2023, 11:42 by RockyRoer)

Here's a sudoku variation I think has the potential to mess with all sorts of rulesets... The ability to have repeated digits without losing normal sudoku rules is pretty fun. I hope some other setters will try making one with their favorite constraints.

The Rules:

  1. [RCB1-6] Fill every row, column and box with the letters R, C, B and the numbers 1-6 once each.
  2. [Killer] In every killer cage, the digits in the cage add up to the number in the upper left corner, and letters R, C, and B take on the value of the Row, Column, or Box they are in.
    • R's always take the value of the Row they are in.
    • C's always take the value of teh column they are in.
    • B's always take the value of the box they are in.
Numbers/letters cannot repeat in any cage (though it may be possible for a value to repeat... if for example a 2 and a R from Row 2 are in a cage together).

The Puzzle:

F-Puzzles:

CTC(you'll want to turn off conflicts and turn on letter entry in settings)

Solution code: Row 5 (9 numbers/capital letters)

Hey Tacosian, if you like to solve another puzzle with this rule set, you can also check out my puzzle "R you Being Cautious? (RBC 1-6 killer sudoku)".

Excellent puzzle! Thank you.

Lovely idea, great execution. I solved on CTC mobile app, and used A (Ar-Row) instead of R. When I posted the solution, it kept getting rejected; and it took me a few crazy moments to remember that I need to replace the R back !! Great fun, look forward to more of these. Thanks, @ RockyRoer :).

Having constructed one myself actually made it quite a nice and easy flow!

Probably the most clever rules that I have seen in quite awhile. Another masterpiece!

This RBC ruleset shall stand the test of time. It got another shout-out from Zombie Hunter yesterday in the brilliant work "BAD Values Snooker".

Lovely concept! It was an intriguing solve with how the RBC-values vary around the grid. Thanks! :-)

I saw your comment under another puzzle(000CWQ). Without even guessing, I knew the low rating was again skorp17's fault, and he's a recidivist.

He can only use software to cheat, look for puzzle explanation videos posted by others everywhere, copy down the final answer, and finally give a very low rating. No one knew his motives for doing all this, and no one could do anything about him. We can only be forced to put up with his bad behavior.:(

Always great to see a sudoku where "the secret" does not and cannot apply.

Ruleset took some getting used to, but once I did get used to it, the puzzle flowed quite nicely. I think it's a great introductory puzzle to this ruleset, and I join the setter in hoping it catches on!

I solved on CTC on mobile, and I do not know how to (or whether it's possible to) enter letters beyond J in that setting. Luckily that's not an issue for C and B, and A looks kind of like R...

Not immensely difficult, just very easy to overlook some options, which led to a lot of facepalm moments. So for revenge I entered the solution code with lowercase letters.

Good puzzle, thanks.

Thank you for this amazing puzzle, RockyRoer!
Somehow I kept going astray in the "middle game" and it took me quite some time to figure out where I was going wrong. But that was totally worth it.
The rule set is a great innovation. Thanks a lot for sharing!
