Kropki Nurimisaki

(Published on 1. February 2023, 08:00 by tallcat)

This puzzle was made for Virtual as part of a secret santa gift exchange, and is published with his permission. I had enjoyed making my last sudoku-PP hybrid (despite the challenging nature) and wanted to make something a little more approachable. I must also give a shoutout to Pulverizing Pancake for inspiring me to make this as I'm very happy with how this turned out! Happy solving!

Normal Sudoku rules apply

Nurimisaki:
Shade some cells according to the following rules:
1. All unshaded cells form a single orthogonally connected area.
2. No 2 x 2 region may be entirely shaded/unshaded.
3. Circles in the grid must be located at “dead ends” i.e. surrounded by shaded cells or grid edges on 3 sides. All circles are given.
4. Circled digits indicate the number of unshaded cells seen in a straight line from the dead end, including the cell itself.
5. Digits cannot repeat in shaded regions.

Kropki: Cells separated by a black dot have a ratio of 1:2. Cells separated by a white dot are consecutive. Not all dots are given. Additionally, one of each cell joined by a dot is shaded and unshaded, and all black dots that cross shaded/unshaded boundaries are given

Wonderful and fantastic puzzle! If only I got the part about negative constraints on circle much sooner... but that didn't stop me from fully enjoying this one from start to finish ;)

This is my first ever puzzle involving any form of shading the cells. Fell in love with this. Going to explore "shading" based sudoku puzzles more now!

Lovely! Any headaches induced during my solve were due to my not reading the rules fully and not the puzzle lol

Not the biggest fan of nurimisaki, but this was a very enjoyable (and approachable!) hybrid.
