HeatTen Up

(Published on 20. February 2023, 14:00 by djorr)

Made this puzzle after zetamath suggested it may have some nice logic. Hopefully it does!

Rules: Normal sudoku rules apply. The thermometers act as 10-lines. Each thermometer must be broken into one or more strings of contiguous digits which sum to 10, and these strings cannot overlap. Additionally, on each string, the digits must increase with the smallest digit being in the cell closest to the bulb and the largest digit being in the cell furthest from the bulb.

For example, a 10-line thermo could read as 1-2-7-4-6, but not 1-2-7-6-4.

Once I disambiguated the blue/green 57D quint in Box 5 with the Pink/yellow 2AE quint in B2 the puzzle quickly fell into place. Great job. Lots of clever bits to discover.

Great puzzle! Figuring out the implications of the ruleset was a lot of fun, as well as the realization of how to proceed after that. The second half of the puzzle was a bit tough for me.

Thanks for the comment wooferzfg! I think it has some nice interactions :) I'm glad you liked it still! Second half is tricky for sure.
