Campsite #2

(Published on 19. January 2023, 20:58 by PrimeWeasel)

Fill the campsite with 12 regions of 8 cells with 1 tent in them. A region can not have 2 tents. (Important!) A digit in a triangle or square shows the amount of other regions touching that cell, apart from the region it is in itself. I've included a picture showing a tent (and tent rows). This particular combination of triangle and square is the only possible orientation of a tent. The tent rows are needed for the solution code. I've also included a picture of a smaller grid with 3 regions. Notice that all regions have just 1 tent. The tent rows for this mini campsite would give a 4251 solution code, 4 purple and 2 yellow on tent row 1, 5 green and 1 yellow on tent row 2

Campsite #2

An easier version can be found here: Campsite 1

Solution code: The size of the regions in tent row 1 and 2

Brilliant work I say, both to this puzzle and the splendid new puzzle type :-) . For me (as not very experienced solver besides this portal) this type includes the totally new aspect of "each area has to contain a certain group of cells". It is open for other grid structures as well. PrimeWeasel, in my opinion you've made some really good decisions on your way to the final rule set.

~ Thank you for these kind words Chalb, especially the recognition of the decisions which were made to have come to the final ruleset, mean a lot to me, it took a while indeed. I was just looking around in Penpa and found this grid called a 'Snub Square' and decided to see how I could make a puzzle out of it. The first puzzle I made was a puzzle called 'Pathfinder' which had some arrows in the grid and required you to draw a path through all the cells, it was nice and easy, but nothing new. Someone I showed it to said something about chaos regions and that's when I started to work out what could be done with coloring regions, and well, after a few minutes, I saw a tent, and that set it all off. In an earlier version of the rules, I had digits in squares accounting for the amount of regions that would touch the region that square was in, besides the digit rule it has now. I had someone (Wessel Strijkstra) test it, who thought it was just too confusing. He suggested trying to have just one of the digit rules, and that's what has lead to the final ruleset. What I hadn't anticipated straightaway, was how much could be done with it, I'm still stumbling on new logic, and will hope to do so for at least a couple more puzzles :)

Fun Fact: Campsite #1 doesn't have any digits in squares cause it was first made with region digits in the squares
