Deconstruction Site

(Published on 17. January 2023, 22:53 by jwsinclair)

I made this last May, around the same time I made Urban Renewal. I've always liked it, but I couldn't decide what to do with it. But I noticed recently that there isn't a single puzzle on this site with deconstruction in the name or description that isn't at least 3 stars (and most are 4 or 5), so I thought I'd rectify that. I'm putting it at 2 to start with, but I won't be surprised at all if it winds up at 1.

Fill the grid with nine non-overlapping 3x3 square regions, such that each region contains the digits 1-9 once each and no digit repeats in any row or column.
Cells outside regions do not contain digits.
Cages show the sum of their digits, and digits cannot repeat within a cage.
Digits along arrows sum to the digit in the connected circle, and can repeat if allowed by other rules.

If you want to try a more challenging puzzle that looks a lot like this one, check out Urban Renewal. And if you want even more puzzles, there's always Artisanal Sudoku, where I publish five pretty approachable sudokus every week.

Solution code: row 3, with an 'X' for any empty cells (11 characters)

My first puzzle of this type. I remembered watching Simon (of CtC fame) solving one of these, and remembered how he started out. After that it was really straightforward

My first ever deconstruction sudoku! I've always wanted to try one out, but they're so intimidating, so when I saw the 2 stars, I jumped at it. Very enjoyable puzzle! Everything just exploded at the end; I love it!

Finding the cages was a delight! Solving the puzzle afterwards was a bit more difficult but the path forwards was fun to follow :)

Best sudoku crossword clue :-)
But jokes aside, thanks for this stunning puzzle, where you just always know where to look. Maybe I'll try urban renewal next.

Very enjoyable puzzle! Just a nice bonus that it wasn't heinously hard, and left some hair on my head. A rare combo :)

Very nice ! The giant 6 cage reminded me of a giant 1 arrow that purpl used in another deconstruction with a similar purpose.

I love deconstruction puzzles but they are mostly too difficult for me. So, I'm really happy about this approachable one and loved solving it. Thanks a lot for this!

Epic 6-cage indeed! Awesome for other reasons as well, but that cage takes the palm either way!

Very approachable and fun. And probably the biggest 6-cage in the history of sudoku :-D
