Ten-Ban

(Published on 13. January 2023, 14:54 by Niverio)

Yet another ambiguity puzzle from me ;) I just love the concept. Also, this is very likely my hardest Sudoku to date, barring S-Cell Miracle, so approach with caution. This puzzle is brutally hard, but should also be that much rewarding. Enjoy!

Rules:
- Normal Sudoku rules apply. Place the digits 1-9 in every row, column and 3x3 box without repeats.

- Every line in the grid is either a Renban line or a Ten line. One line can be both types. Which line is which type must be determined by the solver. Different shades of gray are used only to distinguish between overlapping lines.

Renban Lines: Digits along a Renban line must be consecutive in any order.

Ten Lines: Each line must be broken into one or more strings of contiguous digits which sum to 10, and these strings cannot overlap. Digits may repeat freely on a 10 line, and even within a sum.

Puzzle Links: You can solve the puzzle in F-Puzzles or in CTC Software. CTC version includes answer check.

Solution code: First the digits of Row 8, followed by digits Column 8. (18 digits, no commas or spaces.)

Ooof ! That opening logic was super hard but also super interesting ! Thanks :)

What a gorgeous puzzle with especially mad logic during the opening sequence!
The 3 cells line R456C1 was stupidly powerful, as much as some particular cells there. After that it's a bit slower going for me but all the juicy logic were worth the ride :)

nice flow, clever clues, well done! (in my opinion far from brutally hard)

~ Of course my definition of brutally hard is like child's play compared to your own standards of what brutally hard can mean... haha. I am glad you enjoyed the puzzle!

Tallcatty in the best way, this is my favorite puzzle of the year so far, but knowing Niv, he will probably beat it multiple times before the year is over!

I enjoyed this a lot. Same as Tilberg, the opening was tricky but the solver is nicely guided through the rest of the puzzle so I did not find it too hard afterwards. Great construction.

Brutal opening, but with very unique logic! Thank you :)

Very nice flow after the first part with interesting logic and satisfying deductions. Thanks!

Difficult break-in, but not too difficult after, because it was inevitable where one had to look most of the time. Thanks you!

Good break in but not straightforward even after that. Thanks @niverio
