Prime-Co Sweepers

(Published on 11. January 2023, 17:00 by XeonRisq)

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Numbers cannot repeat in a cage and must sum to the given total in the top left corner.
  • Prime-Co Sweeper Cells :
  • Parity - (Prime digits : 2-3-5-7 | Composite digits : 4-6-8-9)
  • The digit in a square cell denotes how many surrounding cells are of the same parity (prime/composite) including itself.
  • The digit in a circle cell denotes how many surrounding cells are of the opposite parity (prime/composite).
  • 1 will never appear in a circle or square cell.

A very fun and great puzzle! but I think it can be 4 star...
-----
Glad you had fun with this and appreciate the feedback. I believe I initially estimated this at 4 but the consensus ratings bumped it up to 5.

Very nice and original concept ! And clever choice of clues. I loved how some ambiguities remained until the very end. Thanks :)
-----
Appreciate the kind words, solve, and feedback. I was quite smitten with the opening, but I agree - the way the solve path plays out at the end is very fun as well.

"opposite parity"Does it include 1 that does not belong to prime and composite numbers? How should I count if 1 appears around the circle?
-----
The parity is shown in the ruleset :
(Prime digits : 2-3-5-7 | Composite digits : 4-6-8-9)
So 1 is not counted toward either.

Does "surrounding cells" mean only the orthogonally consecutive ones or also the diagonal ones?
-----
It means orthogonally and diagonally adjacent.

Phew! That was, how shall I put it... not easy! But then again, it's almost as if lately I've been put on a puzzle path designed to make me see things from other solvers' perspective, with regards to tricky rulesets haha. This one just kept tripping me up over and over, not just with the same/different type clues that are the other way around to those of the Still Life ruleset, but then with the prime/composite parity, as vs the usual odd/even parity, wow...
All that said, that was still quite fun, and super impressive a construction!
-----
Thanks for the kind words and the extensive feedback. Much respect for the tenacity and perseverance.. I also agree that this one can be tricky but it is fun to try out different parities within puzzles to see what emerges. Still Life still turns my brain to mush, how you managed this ruleset after one of those is a mystery!!

It was really fun solving it with everybody and it was also really fun solving it again by myself! Very unexpected interactions.
-----
Thanks for the help with test solving this one. I'm glad you found it fun even after you had already battled it once before. But then again, we test so many things that it's pretty hard to remember any one puzzle over the rest.
