Santa Puzzle - for dumediat
(Published on 9. January 2023, 18:01 by the_cogito)
I set this puzzle for
dumediat as part of the CTC community's secret santa gift exchange, and am publishing it here with his permission and encouragement.
It's also been correctly pointed out that this puzzle draws some inspiration from
MIA by
zetamath. I'm quite proud of this puzzle, and I hope you enjoy it!
Rules:
- Yin Yang: Shade some cells in the grid such that all shaded cells are orthogonally connected and all unshaded cells are orthogonally connected. No 2x2 area may be entirely shaded or unshaded.
- Divide the grid into 27 separate 3-cell segments or cages. Digits may not repeat within cages. Every cage is either entirely shaded or entirely unshaded.
- Black dots between cells must separate two cages, and indicate that the sums of the digits in those respective cages form a 2:1 ratio.
- White dots between cells must separate two cages, and indicate that the sums of the digits in those respective cages are consecutive.
- ALL dots are given.
- Unshaded cages sum to an even value. Shaded cages sum to an odd value.
- Cells with a gray square must contain an even digit.

Awesome puzzle. Definitely worth a solve, however the puzzle is quite difficult.

This puzzle was better than any gift I could have asked for. The solve path was elegant with some really beautiful logic throughout. Thank you again Santa!

Very impressive that you got this ruleset to work. The solve path is challenging from start to finish, and the break-in is really elegant.
