Hybrid Star Battle Series (001) - Tapa-like Loop

(Published on 8. January 2023, 07:42 by BenceJoful)

Intro

For this Hybrid Star Battle Series I will be sharing a new puzzle each week combining Star Battle with another puzzle genre. This week's genre is Tapa-Like Loop, probably my favorite loop genre (for the moment, at least). It goes without saying, but this series is inspired by the astounding Sudoku Variants Project - Thanks Richard!

This puzzle was originally created as a Secret Santa gift for superrabbit, a great pencil puzzle solver and setter, and she has graciously agreed to let me publish it here. Hope you enjoy!

Rules

Standard Star Battle and Tapa-Like Loop rules apply, plus a no-overlap clause.

  • Star Battle: Place stars into some cells such that each row and column contains exactly 2 stars (1 star in the example). Stars may not touch one another, not even diagonally.
  • Tapa-Like Loop: Draw a non-intersecting loop through the centers of some empty cells. Clues represent the numbers of consecutive cells occupied by the loop each time it enters the (up to) eight cells surrounding the clue.
  • Stars may not overlap the loop or the clues.

Links

Solve on Penpa+. You may use shading instead of stars if you wish - answer checker only checks for the loop.

Example (Penpa+ link):

Solution code:

For each row that contains horizontal line segments, the lengths of those segments.

In the above example, the solution code is 2211114.

Thank you, it was a joy to solve this one and the two rulesets worked perfectly together. I would be happy to see more puzzles like this one.
