Samurai Sandwiches

(Published on 28. December 2022, 17:34 by mathpesto)

This puzzle isn't particularly hard, but it's easy to make mistakes if you aren't careful, especially since conflict checker won't work. My advice: use the shading or pen tool to distinguish the grids from one another, and the sandwich clues are placed inside cells so that you can also use shading or the pen tool to keep track of which ones you've already taken care of.

Rules:

There are five overlapping 6x6 grids. Within each grid, place the digits 1–6 once each in every row, column, and region. Clues outside the grids refer to the sum of the digits between two 1’s in that row/column.

(Note: "≤X" means "less than or equal to X" and "≥X" means "greater than or equal to X".)

(Also note: Shading is provided only in the image below—not the solving link—to clarify the make-up of the five grids.)

Solve:

Solution code: Row 1 of upper-right grid, then Row 1 of bottom-left grid (left to right, no spaces, 12 digits)

Not a very hard puzzle, but need some time to go through. In germany we would say you'll win a "Fleißkärtchen" with that. But nevertheless I've really liked it. :-)

Maybe not the hardest puzzle, but phew, I am still rather proud to have solved it! And all the more so that for once I didn't make any silly mistake. I did get badly stuck at one particular point, but that's on my being inexperienced with sandwich puzzles. Amazing construction -- the setup and resolution!
