Normal sudoku rules apply.
Standard "little killer" rules, i.e. the numbered arrows outside the grid indicate the sum of the digits in the corresponding direction. Digits can repeat in the direction of the arrow.
A "sandwich" clue indicates the sums of the numbers sandwiched between the 1 and the 9 in that row or column.
An "x-sum" clue indicates the sum of the first X numbers placed in the corresponding direction, where X is equal to the first number placed in that direction.
All clues below the grid (no asterisk) are sandwich clues.
*The clue in row 5 is both an x-sum AND a sandwich clue.
**The clue in column 2 is an x-sum clue.
***The clue in column 8 is a sandwich clue, but its "crusts" are 4 and 7, not 1 and 9.

The puzzle isn't too hard... unless one forgets to do the sudoku part.

PS: Your solution code description is contradictory.

Thank you! And yes I was worried I'd over-explained it... I often use chess notation where the bottom row is row 1, but wanted to clarify that I'm using sudoku notation here where the top row is row 1!
