Fillomino Romance (Chaos Construction)

(Published on 13. December 2022, 09:00 by Agent)

A good old chaos construction, hadn't done that in a very long time. The ruleset is inspired by Phistomefel's Killomino Sudoku, with the difference that "killominos" are bounded by region borders, and each region must contain exactly 2 of them. I hope you will enjoy!

Rules

  • Normal Chaos Construction rules apply. Each row, each column and each region must contain the digits 1 to 8 once each. Regions must be determined by the solver.
  • Divide each region into two sub-groups of orthogonally connected cells. No two sub-groups of the same size may share an edge.
  • A small clue in the top left corner of a cell indicates the sum of digits in its sub-group.
  • In each region, the sub-group with the larger number of cells must contain the digits indicating the size of both sub-groups.
  • Example Puzzle (6x6)

    Main Puzzle (8x8)

Solution code: Row 2 (from left to right) then row 5 (from left to right)

Pretty tricky. I can see why it's four stars, but I struggled for a bit until I finally figured out the breakin.

Very nice! I wonder how you came up with the ruleset, it works neatly. Quite approachable except one middle step a bit trickier

-- Thanks @Samish! It was inspired by a puzzle from Phistomefel, "Killomino Sudoku."

The break-in isn't that hard, but then a second break-in is required that's trickier.
