Sisyphos Fillomino (10x10)

(Published on 14. November 2022, 15:00 by Jesper)

Rules

Divide the grid into regions so that no two regions of the same size share an edge. Enter a number into each cell equal to the size of its region.

Numbers outside the grid are Sisyphos clues; they indicate how many steps a boulder rolled onto the grid from that direction would travel.

A boulder moves orthogonally between cells as follows:
- Generally it will proceed to the lowest neighboring number, but it will never roll uphill (from a lower number to a higher number)
- On flat ground (equal numbers), it will continue rolling straight, but it will not turn (since there is no gradient)
- If several equal lower numbers are available, it will go straight rather than turn
- In case of ties solely between turning left and turning right, it will split and use both paths (which then each individually must have the length specified in the outside clue).

Example (6x6):

The puzzle follows:

Penpa+: Sisyphos Fillomino (10x10)

The solution check requires all numbers.

Great puzzle and very fun concept. I could almost see the boulders roll down the slopes of the grid while I was solving ! I shall now roll them back on top of the mountain to get ready for #2 !

Very nice puzzle, beautiful interactions! Some of the clues were surprisingly restricted.

Smooth solve. Tricky finish. Thanks.

Beautiful construction, Jesper. It's never that difficult but it's so easy to make a mistake or miss a possible configuration. A real mind bender.

The way the paths worked on flat ground really messed with me many times through the solve. Very smooth, and I look forward to the second :)

Surprisingly straightforward once I understood the implications of all the rules. Lovely as always! Thanks
