Rules

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • The digits along a line are read as a sequence of 2-digit numbers, which form a non-repeating consecutive set in any order. All numbers face the same way along the line, such that it alternates between tens digits and units digits. It is up to the solver to determine which direction the line is read in.
  • In addition, nine cells in the grid (one per row/column/box) are to be treated as a zero for the purpose of the lines. These zero-cells are not necessarily on lines, and each digit appears in exactly one zero-cell. For clarity, a tens digit can never be zero.

Solve in f-puzzles or Sudokupad.

Solution code: Row 5 and column 5

My first 5 star solve! After staring at it yesterday evening and not making any progress for 20 minutes I went to bed. Today I spotted the next conclusion, after which the puzzle revealed all its secrets.

Thanks for the beautiful puzzle!

Really enjoyed this and found it very challenging. I kept congratulating myself upon finding logical breakthroughs, only to find there was yet another roadblock ahead.

I second the comment about the well-written rules.

Recommend for CtC. Simon will love this puzzle for sure.

Also want to commend the exceptionally clear and concise phrasing of the rules.

"Renban 2.0" would be a great name for this ruleset - with 2 referring to the 2-digit numbers and 0 to the zero-digits.
