The Snake Egg
(Published on 22. October 2022, 12:35 by Video Floral)
Here's a rather minimalist start image. Unfortunately, the ruleset has become a bit long for this.
This puzzle is available online via F-Puzzles
RULES:
- Normal sudoku rules apply.
- There is exactly one snake and one snake egg hidden in the grid. The snake is a 1-cell wide path of orthogonally-connected cells. The snake never touches itself orthogonally but may touch diagonally. (It never ‘doubles back’ to cover a full 2x2 region.) The snake egg is a single cell that is not allowed to touch the snake orthogonally but may touch the snake diagonally.
- Each 5 indicates that exactly 5 of its surrounding cells are part of the snake. (The snake egg counts as a part of the snake in this calculation.) A 5 itself cannot be part of the snake or the snake egg. Every snake cell or snake egg cell that is orthogonally connected to a 5 contains a digit that is lower than 5.
- Orthogonally connected snake cells that are either both lower than 5 or both higher than 5 must be consecutive.
- The three green cells in the grid represent the snake's head, tail and egg. Which of these is which must be determined.
- Cells separated by a black dot must contain digits with a 1:2 ratio. (Not all dots are given.)
Example
Solution code: Row 5 (from left to right), then column 5 (from top to bottom)
