Pentomino Jigsaw

(Published on 19. October 2022, 03:00 by XeonRisq)

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Pentominoes: Fit all twelve different pentominoes into the grid, such that, they do not include a gray cell, and can only border one cell of any other pentomino, but may share borders with multiple pentominoes.
  • Every pentomino includes exactly one cage.
  • If a cage includes a number in the top corner, the digits of the pentomino must sum to that total.
  • Digits may not repeat within a pentomino.
  • Borders: Border cells that are shared in a row, will have values that are consecutive (border = white kropki dot).
  • Border cells that are shared in a column, will have values that are in a 2:1 ratio (border = black kropki dot).

This really deserves more solves - don't be put off by the comment about there not being a unique solution, if you make full use of the rules and clues the solution is unique (and fun to reach).

This is a very lovely puzzle, sadly the solution isn't unique (but luckily the solution code is).

Glad you enjoyed the puzzle. Happily, I've checked and can confirm that the puzzle is in fact unique. It may be that you missed a pentomino border somewhere and didn't apply the kropki relationship between the cells. I do appreciate the feedback, but if you believe that it is still not unique, please let me know what cells have more than one option, or if you believe there is a deadly pattern.

That was lovely! Quite tough for me, but really fun all the way through and a very nice interplay of rules.

Thanks for persevering and the solve/feedback. Glad you enjoyed the puzzle, though I will be honest, the rules initially were simpler but the ending was brutal (during testing), so I added a couple of rules and made the ending a bit easier but much smoother.
