Position Sums (9x9 Chaos Construction)

(Published on 18. October 2022, 16:45 by ONeill)

This is my first puzzle and is inspired by similar puzzles from Jesper and KNT which you should also have a go at.
Jesper's puzzle contains an example puzzle which you should check out if you are not sure on how the rules work.

Rules:

1. Divide the grid into nine orthogonally connected regions, each containing nine cells. Some region borders are given.

2. Each row, column and region must contain the digits 1 to 9.

3. Let A and B be the digits in the first and second cells of the grid from any direction, including the diagonal.
a) Unshaded clues outside the grid indicate the sum of A and B
b) Shaded clues indicate the sum of the digits in positions A and B from that direction

4. If a clue is circled, the cells that are part of its sum belong to the same region. If a clue is not circled, the cells that are part of its sum belong to different regions.

5. A question mark can stand for any positive integer (including 2-digit numbers).

6. The sum of x and y is 10.

The puzzle:

Penpa+: Position Sums (9x9 Chaos Construction)

Answer check is enabled with digits and edges.

I hope you enjoy!

Solution code: Row 7 followed by column 7, with dashes for region borders. For example, 123-65-478923-4156-987

really great puzzle, the start and the end of region building were my favourite parts.

Instant classic !
Somewhat easier than the puzzles it was inspired from, but full of very nice original logic and a joy to solve. An impressive first puzzle ! Thanks a lot !

Clarified rules

There's one unconventional rule here which I think you might want to make explicit: "...from any direction, including the diagonal"
