Masyudoku (Masyu/Latin Square/Loop Sums/Ambiguity)

(Published on 30. September 2022, 02:35 by dumediat)

This puzzle uses standard Masyu rules, but I thought it would be interesting to add some ambiguity using loop sums and Latin square-type rules. I hope that you enjoy! Ratings, comments, and feedback are much appreciated. Please feel free to reach out to me on Discord if you have any comments or questions. Please also feel free to try my other puzzles here.

Rules:

  • 10x10 Masyu: Draw a non-intersecting loop through the centers of some cells that passes through every circle. The loop must turn on black circles and travel straight through the cells on either side. The loop must go straight through white circles, and turn in at least one of the cells on either side. The solver must determine which circles are black and which circles are white.
  • In addition, place the digits 1-9 once each in each row and column. Black circles must contain even digits, and white circles must contain odd digits. Each row and column also has one blank cell (shaded black), which cannot be part of the loop or on circles. Blank cells may not touch each other diagonally.
  • The clues outside the grid indicate the sum of the cells on the loop in that row or column, including the circles. The loop cells in rows and columns without such clues may sum to any number.

Solution code: Column 6 as a 10-character string (no spaces), using the digits 1 through 9 and X for the blank cell

Loved this Masyu Loop! Some really nice logic involving the interactions between masyu and row/column sums, with quite approchable arithmetics to let the solver focus on the geometry. Thanks !

This mathy masyu variant is so elegant and precise! Really fun solve, I cannot recommend it enough, especially if it seems a little outside your comfort zone. It was initially a little outside mine, and it did a great job feeling tricky but still intuitive. EVERY time I thought I was stuck or started thinking I may need to set down the puzzle, that was when I would always realize something new!!! Mad props for making this resolve uniquely and smoothly with so much ambiguity at the start. Great puzzle.
