Double Agent

Rules:

Doppelganger Variant

  • Place the digits 0-9 in the grid so that they appear exactly once in each row and each column.
  • The nine boxes in the grid are labeled 1 through 9 from left to right and top to bottom. Digits must not repeat in boxes. The digit 0 must appear once in each box and takes the place of the digit X in box X. [An example grid is given below.]
  • If the digit 0 is in rXcY in box Z, the three values rXc1, r1cY, and Z are all different. (Said a different way: wherever a digit 0 is placed, the digits seeing it from the top row and left column must be non-zero, different from each other, and different from the box number the 0 is in.) [An example grid is given below.]

Double Arrows

  • The sum of the digits along each line connecting two circles is equal to the sum of the digits in these circles.
  • Lines do not turn at intersections for the purpose of sums.
  • Digits may repeat on double arrows if allowed by other rules.
  • The digit 0 has a value of null for the purpose of sums.

Example:

  • In the example grid above, the 0 digit shaded orange is in Box 1, the 0 digit shaded yellow is in Box 2, the 0 digit shaded green is in Box 3, and the 0 digit shaded blue is in Box 4.
  • The orange shaded 0 is in Box 1 (Z = 1) in r3c2. This 0 sees the orange 2 in r3c1 and the orange 3 in r1c2. 1, 2, and 3 are all different digits. Therefore, the orange shaded 0 digit satisfies all of the Doppelganger rules.
  • The 0 digits shaded green, yellow, and blue all satisfy the Doppelganger rules in the same way as the orange shaded 0 digit.
  • All of the double arrows in this example satisfy the double arrow rules.

Enjoy!

I totally agree with Samish!! Being a little bit too familiar with doppelganger puzzles I first ignored the fact that the boxes are already labeled ... . Using this the solving path was super smooth. The interactions of the arrows in r4/6 were surprising. Excellent work!

Amazing puzzle! I'd solve many of Kafkapharnaum's doppelgangers before so I knew the implications of the rule but the twist of making a 10x10 grid was fresh and fun to work with! I also liked the quite helpful arithmetic deductions.
In the end the difficulty of this puzzle is mainly about understanding the implications of the ruleset, because once it's done it flows very nicely and there's nothing brutal at all! Ofc teaming up with Kafka who knows this rule so well, was rather helpful not to miss any doppelganger deduction :-D
Thanks a lot for setting it!

Absolutely beautiful to see how quickly and how well you grasped the ruleset and made it your own, and it's amazing to see, all in all, how minimalistic the grid is and how it collapses. Plus what about that final disambiguation -- that was just gorgeous, in pure Doppelganger style! So that was a really special solve to me and I hope there will be more; I'd welcome another solve in team with Samish, who in this one taught me a lot about double arrows to the point of certainly cutting my solve time in half, so that was real sweet as well! :D

This is an excellent puzzle! Although I set a similar puzzle myself (same grid, different rules, search for "Outsider") it took me a lot of time to wrap my head around this one. But the solve was absolutely worth it. Thank you!

Great to see the doppelganger rule being explored ! I'm looking forward to trying this one.

Kafkapharnaum made several awesome doppelganger puzzles for anyone interested !

Amazing amazing puzzle! One of my favorites. Everything flows very smoothly and the logic is so much fun! Several uniquely interesting steps made possible by the extra row and column :)

Very interesting puzzle and worth taking the time to wrap your head around the indexing anti-triplets.

Once we hit the mid-solve, we'd fully integrated that rule and everything flowed nicely!
