Count the neighbours

(Published on 20. September 2022, 17:48 by Renjestoo)

Rules:
  • Normal Sudoku rules apply
  • The numbers in the Killer Cage cells represent the added total amount of that cell together with all orthogonally connected cells. (Killer cages itself can be ignored since there couldn't be a 25 or 13 in 1 cell for example)
  • The squares indicate that the number has to be even
  • The circles indicate that the number has to be odd

I solved it without having to use ANY of the grey circles or squares, so definitely too many clues

I agree that the puzzle feels over-clued. But I did like the rule variant and the deductions it enabled along the way.

I think the idea's solid, but the puzzle would probably benefit from removing some of the parity clues, as there's no way you need all of them to get a unique solution.
