Broken Pencil

(Published on 17. September 2022, 19:05 by the_cogito)

This puzzle draws inspiration from mathpesto's puzzle Negators. I hope you enjoy.

Rules:
- Normal sudoku rules apply.
- Digits along a light blue region sum line must have an equal sum within each region the line passes through.
- Every row, column, and box contains exactly one negator cell. The digit in a negator cell acts as the negative of its value for the purpose of any region sum line that passes through it (eg, a 4 in a negator cell would instead act as -4). The location of these cells must be determined.
- Digits in negator cells must be unique from one another, and contain the digits 1-9.

Loved it ! This one might look complex at first sight, but it proves to be quite approchable through the use of very basic arithmetics for the deductions. I like it when the focus is on the geometry. Makes for very pleasant solves. Thanks !

@madhupt maybe think about this again, mainly the 45 bit.

The puzzle is broken. The minimum sum on blue lines s 45-2-8-9(negator) = 26, which cannot have two cell sum in box 2 and 6.

Oops! How did I not see this? Blinkers, I suppose. Too fixated on the 45 sum, I think. :-)

Thanks so much for referencing my puzzle. This was a lot of fun to solve, visually striking, and very smooth! (Quite approachable unless you're like me and stubbornly look in the wrong places for a long time lol)
