Confusing STOP Sign

(Published on 14. September 2022, 11:26 by Will Power)

Normal Sudoku rules apply. Numbers on lines with circles are between the numbers on the circles at the end of the line. Numbers on red lines are a set of non-repeating, consecutive numbers in any order. Numbers on green lines are at least 5 apart from their neighbors on the line. Numbers with an X between them sum to 10. Numbers with a V between them sum to 5. Not all X and V are given. Numbers with white dots between them are consecutive. Not all possible white dots are given. However, all possible white dots on the octagonal border ARE given.

Looking for something challenging, but approachable and fun. Where to look? A Will Power puzzle, of course. Found this one last year. Enjoyed it.

@MarthaB Thank you for the kind comment. I see you escaped the prison in my puzzle "Great Escape", but it looks like you didn't complete the follow-up "The Great Escape II". Let me know if you are able to complete your quest for freedom! -Will Power

I wish I would have read the comments first, then I would have realized that having an 8 next to a 9 on the outer ring wasn't an error. But otherwise fun puzzle, thanks Will!

I understood it too, that no adjacent cell on the stop sign perimeter can be adjacent digits without a white dot. I literally just solved it using that logic

@Baklin : I totally agree with you, but you didnt confuse yourself, the ruleset is really confusing as it never specifies that you cant have any white dot between diagonal adjacent digits on the border (it says ALL white dots are given on the octogonal border, to me that included the diagonal part too....)

Somehow I always end up with a 9 and an 8 next to each other on one of the between lines without a dot between them.

@Baklin The only 9 that is next to an 8 on the perimeter is a diagonal touching. White dots can only appear between adjacent cells. Thanks for playing. -Will Power

Edit: @Will. Thanks. I managed to confuse myself. Of course there isn't a white dot between diagonal connected dots.

I found the logic of this one strangely satisfying. Not entirely sure why :)
