Toroidal Region XY-Sums (Chaos Construction, 8x8)

(Published on 15. September 2022, 00:11 by thoughtbyte)

Toroidal chaos construction: place one of each digit 1-8 in every row, column, and region, but the regions must be determined by the solver. The grid is to be treated as a torus (rows 1 and 8 are adjacent and columns 1 and 8 are adjacent). For example, a region may extend from r1c4 to r8c4 if allowed by other rules.

Each clue outside the grid is either an X-sum or an XY-sum, to be determined by the solver.

X-sums: show the sum of the first X digits from that direction, where X is the first digit. All cells in the sum are in the same region, the cell directly after the summed cells from the direction of the clue is in a different region. The last cell from the direction of the clue may be in the same region if allowed by other rules.

XY-sums: show the sum of the first X digits and last Y digits from that direction combined, where X is the first digit and Y is the last digit. All cells in the sum are in the same region, the cell directly after the summed cells, on each side, is in a different region.

Cells connected by a white square are in the same region. Cells connected by a black square are in different regions.

Thanks, interesting, and a challenge for me to get my head round the toroidal aspect.

Awesome puzzle! The toroidal nature of the grid really changes everything, which is very cool. Impressive that you could keep solution path so tight and clean considering the inherent openness of the ruleset. Very well set!

Tricky new twist to CC. Enjoyed that. thanks.

Took me a few attempts as I kept misunderstanding the rules. Got there in the end though, great puzzle :)

- Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Was there any particular hangup, I am happy to edit the rules for clarity. I understand the rules are a bit verbose and it's a lot to sink in.
