Indexed Chaos

(Published on 3. September 2022, 23:42 by Jay Dyer)

Rules

  • Each row, column, and region contains the digits 1-9 once each. Regions must be determined, and consist of nine orthogonally connected cells.
  • The regions all have unique indices from 1-9, to be determined. If a region contains a circle cell, that cell contains the region's index.
  • Each killer cage enters exactly two regions, and the digits in its total are the indices of those regions (e.g. a cage entering regions 2 and 3 could sum to 23 or 32). Digits may not repeat in a cage.

Solve in f-puzzles or Sudokupad.

Solution code: Rows 6 and 9.

Fantastic puzzle. Very nice logic with the regions. Definitely a 5 star difficulty for me. I thought some of the steps were hard to find but not overly complex. I'm in awe at how these puzzles are created and solved so easily by such geniuses :)

For me it was very hard, stuck multiple times..

Extremely clever puzzle, and just about as approachable as can be expected for a chaos construction. (Meaning, still hard, but enjoyable throughout.) Nice work!

Very nice idea with that indexing ! It felt very satisfying to get the break in idea once I internalized the implications of the ruleset. Love this kind of puzzle where you have to deduce some properties of the ruleset to be able to get started.

Great puzzle with inventive rule set. I agree with others that it's probably easier than most 5 star puzzles.

Wonderful puzzle. Not easy but without brutal bits, very smooth, thus, to me the difficulty is 4*

Don't miss this puzzle! One of my favorite CCs of recent times. And definitely not monstrously hard by any stretch of the imagination (I solved it in under an hour).

Wow, that is such a wonderful puzzle.
