Chaos Construction: Arrow In-10x10-sity

(Published on 21. August 2022, 04:00 by XeonRisq)

  • The digits 0 to 9 must appear once in every row, column, and region. Regions are to be determined by the solver, and must be a set of ten orthogonally connected cells.
  • Numbers along an arrow must sum to the number shown in the circled cells.
  • The circle will exist in a separate region from the arrow's region(s). If the arrow is in multiple regions, each region will sum to the same total.
  • A number in a diamond will be the number of cells in the region either ON circle/arrows, or OFF circle/arrows, which is to be determined by the solver.
  • Numbers outside the grid specify the number of borders in that row or column.

Solution code: Row 2 followed by a "-", then Column 3 (insert "-" where a region border is located, not including edge of grid) Example: 1203-45-6-789-2345-109-678

finally. :-)
Very nice. thanks.

Wow!! That was a long time since your last comment. I would be interested to know how many actual hours you put in on the solve. Regardless, I appreciate the solve and thrilled you enjoyed this one.

definitely a few hours, finally contemplating where to put the last 2 borders in C2. After failing once or twice last year, the puzzle must have dropped out of my attention, until I rediscovered it a few days ago, scanning unfinished Chaos constructions.

Haha - very nice puzzle - and thanks for the credit on the chat we had - but the implementation was all your doing :)

Thanks for the solve and kind words..
Puzzles have to come from somewhere, and our discussion initiated the path for this one, and for that I am very appreciative!

Question: for the diamonds, do you mean the combined total of digits on (or off) both arrows and circles or does the solver have to figure out whether it's circles or arrows? I understand the on/off choice but wondering if arrow/circle is also an unknown.
-----
Sorry for the confusion.
It's whether digits are on "all parts of an arrow" OR the digit is in a cell that is on "no part of an arrow" (so an empty cell)
Example: All of the last column are ON arrows; top seven cells in the first column are OFF arrows.

Ve-ry-n-ice-pu-zz-le !
Loved the long arrOw and the logic involving these little diamonds

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for giving the puzzle a try and for the awesome feedback.

Oh boy, here we go. The proliferation of weapons of mass construction (WMC) has began!

@KNT, look at what you've done. You'll be remembered as the Oppenheimer of WMC, "destroyer of worlds".

Thanks for the solve, however credit for the idea of this one would actually revolve around a conversation chilly and I had about 2 weeks ago..
Though I do recognize that KNT posted a 10x10 CC puzzle a few days ago.
