Chaos Construction: Reversal

(Published on 17. August 2022, 17:00 by XeonRisq)

The idea here actually came from the feedback to BremSter's first CC puzzle. Several solvers reported that the puzzle was able to be solved without the regions being completed. Well buckle up, because this has been designed to be a full reversal!!
  • The digits 1 to 9 must appear once in every row, column, and region. Regions are to be determined by the solver, and must be a set of nine orthogonally connected cells.
  • No 2x2 region can belong to the same region nor 4 different regions.
  • Each cornermark letter represents a different digit. All digits have been assigned their own letter.
  • Numbers that appear in the cells with a white dot between must be consecutive; numbers that appear in the cells with a black dot between must have a ratio of 2:1.
  • A region border must exist between the two cells that have a kropki dot between them.
  • Clues outside the row or column denotes the largest number of adjacent cells for a single region in that row/column.

  • CtC link - link to solve online

Solution code: Row 3 followed by a "-", then Column 8 (insert "-" where a region border is located, not including edge of grid)
Example: 123-45-6-789-2345-19-678

Thanks for the puzzle! Smooth and enjoyable with a unique ruleset-idea. The region deduction was definitely more difficult than finding the numbers themselves.

Is there a function in sudokupad to not "finish" the puzzle before the borders are set? My solve took quite a bit longer than the timer indicates, haha.
-----
You are quite welcome, and I do appreciate the solve and nice feedback. As for the timer, I do not think there is anything that can be done there at the moment. Maybe in the future Sven may add a feature to assist with the control of when the timer stops.

Very nice! This feels like two separate puzzles though. It would be nice if there were more interactions between clues.
-----
Thanks, it kinda is two puzzles, but the first portion is somewhat trivial, shouldn't be too much of an issue to resolve the digits. The puzzle really starts once the digits have been resolved..
As far as interactions, the borders, grid restraints, and outside clues do the necessary magic, sorry if you found that they didn't do enough...

I really enjoyed this! Should have played it with "Check on finish" turned off though, it stopped the timer when I had really just started the puzzle haha.
-----
Awesome! Glad you found this backwards puzzle fun. There are no rules about solving it again, and just turn that timer off.. Appreciate the feedback and solve.

Required some real brainpower at the start but flowed very well once I got the hang of it. Very unusual but really fun!
-----
Appreciate you sticking with it even though it was a bit awkward. Glad it was fun, and thanks for the solve/feedback.

Different. A bit unusual to complete the regions after all digits have been found. thanks.
-----
I agree completely, but that was what I wanted to explore here. Thanks for giving the puzzle a go and the feedback.

This region construction burned my brain and I enjoyed it – a brilliant puzzle!
-----
Yeah, approaching the puzzle like this feels so foreign that it can get twisted in your mind. Appreciate the solve and the compliment.
