Moody Lines (Abstract 3x3's and Ambiguous Lines)

(Published on 12. August 2022, 14:24 by AnalyticalNinja )

Check FULL RULES before attempting.
Digits on an arrow sum to the attached circle. (Digits may repeat on arrows if allowed by other rules.)
Digits within cages sum to the total shown. (Digits CAN'T repeat within cages.)
Ambiguous lines, each line must be one of these types:
Renban: these lines contain sets of consecutive, non-repeating digits in any order.
German Whispers: adjacent digits on these lines must differ by at least 5.
Parity: these lines contain either all even or all odd digits.

This puzzle is solved in two stages:
1) Normal 9x9 sudoku rules DON'T apply.
Each 3x3 box within the grid will be independently solved as an abstract 3x3: fill each box with three digits, selected from the range 1-9, such that no digit repeats within a row of column of that box. The solver must determine which three digits each box contains.
Additionally, when solving individual boxes as abstract 3x3's, ignore line segments between cells in different boxes. (in this stage, line segments in different boxes can be different line types)
(Digits from this stage will be used in the solution code.)

2) Erase all digits within the grid whose cell position within their box DOESN'T match their box position within the grid (example, you WON'T erase r1r1 in box 1, r5c9 in box 6, and r9c5 in box 8.)
Then solve as a regular variant sudoku using the constraints in the grid and remaining numbers as givens. (the full lines now have to only be one type each)
Normal sudoku rules will apply at this point.

Playable with PuzzleTV (recommended), F-Puzzles or CTC (SudokuPad).

Solution code: Row 3 before erasing digits, followed by row 3 of the final solution. (18 digits no spaces)

Not sure if you'll even see this comment since i know this is an older puzzle, but I just want to say I found this series of mini sudokus leading to bigger ones the other night and I have been addicted to solving all of them! I'm on the final one now, but I just want to say this has been so much fun and these are some of my absolute favorite puzzles I have ever solved!

I am afraid that the PuzzleTV link leads to the F-Puzzles page

Thanks so much for pointing this out! I've fixed it now, so the link connects where it's supposed to.

Very cool philosophy of sudoku, even better than the other one (which was in and of itself already very good)

- Thank you so much! I too thought this was a great "next step" in the evolution of this type of puzzle. I'm really glad you enjoyed it! ^_^

A lovely puzzle! A bit harder than the previous two, but with even more amazing deductions! Without a doubt the best of the three! :)

- Thank you! I think it's my best so far as well, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

Very entertaining solve. I really like your abstract 3x3 puzzles. Interestingly, I don't think the lines are needed at all in stage 2

- Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I hadn't realized that the lines might not even be necessary in stage two, I was too focused on trying to set a puzzle that wasn't broken with the lines going through it! XD
