Cagey Royalty

(Published on 11. August 2022, 21:43 by Jagga)

The royal family is hiding some digits, and they are being real cagey about it...

This is my first puzzle that I set, and I think it turned out quite well. Any feedback is appreciated. Have fun solving!

Rules:

Normal sudoku rules apply. Digits in a killer cage may not repeat and sum to the number at the top left of the cage. Additionally:
- A digit in a red cage may not see the same digit by a king's move in chess.
- A digit in a blue cage may not see the same digit by a knight's move in chess.
- A digit in a green cage may not see the same digit by a queen's move in chess.

Solve on CtC

There is also a colorblind version with the cage types in the top of the cage. Of course you can also use this if you think it is easier to see the cage types.

Note:
After seeing some confusion about this, I should clarify that every specific cage has its own specific move rule. So a digit being in a cage does not mean that that digit is constrained everywhere in the puzzle, it just means that if for example a 4 was in a knight's move cage, it can not see another 4 by a knight's move from that cage. So if there was a 4 in another green (queen) cage somewhere else then that 4 would be allowed to see another 4 via a knight or king's move, but not a queen's move. Hope this clarifies things.

Solution code: Column 8 top to bottom followed by column 9 top to bottom (18 digits no spaces)

Usually I'm not a fan of mixing up so many rules, but this one was tremendous fun. :)

Inspite of having done so many anti-chess moves puzzles, i found this to be very difficult, yet very original and great fun. Outstanding for a first puzzle, for sure. Thanks, @ Jagga :)

I thoroughly enjoyed this puzzle. It was somehow both familiar and novel. The clues interacted in unexpected ways. I think Simon would really appreciate just how clever this was.
