A combination of "watchtowers" and a cave puzzle, two rulesets I think mesh well together and end up with some interesting and fresh logic!
RulesNormal sudoku rules apply.
Shade some cells such that all unshaded cells form an orthogonally connected group and all groups of shaded cells touch at least one grid edge.
All shaded cells are fortress cells and must be greater than all orthogonally adjacent unshaded cells. Cells in a square are shaded.
A circled cell is unshaded and indicates the number of unshaded cells seen from that cell vertically and horizontally, including itself. In addition, all unshaded cells seen by that cell are less than its value, while the first shaded cells it sees in each direction is greater than its value. In other words, a circled cell is a simultaneous watchtower and cave clue where the field-of-view of both clue types coincide.
Solution code: Row 9, then Column 8

this was seriously hard for me, but I must say, when the cave logic started showing its real power is really a moment to remember, cool stuff!

haha, if you're talking about what I think you're talking about, that was as amazing to witness when setting as while solving! ~tess

Very cool puzzle! The combination of rules is sublime, it gives rise to many clever deductions which I did not expect at all.

I seriously underestimated this, but it is really rewarding!

Intriguing ruleset with very clever deductions. Definitely hard, but even more satisfying.

Very fun solve with such a well executed concept, there're lots of intricate steps all over but all logically beautiful as well, I enjoyed it a lot! ;)

Very nice! Four stars for me, but that might have something to do with having set this monster: https://logic-masters.de/Raetselportal/Raetsel/zeigen.php?id=000AN6
