A Hatch Made in Heaven

(Published on 8. August 2022, 08:00 by Nordy)

Edit: If you are interested in my logical path through this puzzle, I have included a short solve video (in English) in a hidden comment.

I have been intrigued by Snake Egg puzzles ever since solving this beautiful CTC feature many months ago. While goofing around and trying to better understand the logic, I stumbled upon this tiny miracle. It should pair nicely with your morning coffee/tea/etc.

Rules:

Snake and Eggs—Sizes 1 to 5:

  • Draw an orthogonally-connected, 1-cell wide snake that does not branch, does not loop, and does not touch itself orthogonally (but may touch itself diagonally).
  • The remaining non-snake cells form five distinct orthogonally-connected areas (eggs), one each of sizes 1 to 5.
  • Areas of different sizes do not touch orthogonally, but they may touch diagonally.
  • Each given number in the grid must be part of an area of that size.

Solve online:

Solution code: The number of snake cells in each row, starting with Row 1 and working down (six digits total)

Easy and very nice. Still surprised at what puzzles count as "1 star" nowadays. For me, it's only one star if it is only a "filling exercise". This one actually requires some thought and a lot of small steps to do it logically.
