Skyscraper Miracle

(Published on 5. August 2022, 19:41 by jwsinclair)

Normal sudoku rules apply.
Numbers in the grid represent the heights of skyscrapers, and clues outside the grid indicate the number of skyscrapers visible in that row or column, looking in that direction.
The purple line contains a non-repeating set of consecutive digits, in any order.
On thermometers, digits increase from the bulb.
The gray line is a palindrome, which contains the same sequence of digits in either direction.
Digits in cells separated by a V sum to 5.
Digits in cells separated by an X sum to 10.
Digits in cells separated by a white dot are consecutive.
Digits in cells separated by a black dot have a 1:2 ratio.

I suspect I don't understand the rules. I'm assuming "Normal Sudoku rules apply" only within the 9x9 grid, and not to the full 11x11 grid, since F-Puzzles and CtC don't let you write 11 into a cell. But then that means every row in the 9x9 grid is going to contain the digits 1 to 9, and the most distant skyscraper is going to be at most 9 tiles away, so the numbers outside the grid are also going to go from 1 to 9. That means the numbers outside the grid will always conflict with some number in the row, and both F-Puzzles and CtC mark this as an error.

Edit: I figured it out. It looks like you should ignore any errors F-Puzzle and CtC give you regarding collisions between numbers outside the grid and numbers within the grid.

Yes, sorry for any confusion. FWIW, there's a Cracking the Cryptic video featuring this puzzle (I just added a link).

Very interesting break-in. Took me a bit to see the implications of the clues, but became obvious once I discovered it.
