Thermosn8kes

(Published on 5. August 2022, 08:00 by Nordy)

This puzzle should be fairly approachable as long as you do a little Sudoku along the way. Enjoy!

Rules:

Normal Sudoku: Place the digits 1 to 9 in every row, column, and 3x3 box.

8-Cell Long Thermosnakes:

  • Draw five orthogonally-connected, 1-cell wide snakes that do not branch, do not loop, and do not touch themselves orthogonally (but may touch themselves diagonally).
  • Snakes may touch other snakes (orthogonally or diagonally), but they do not cross, overlap, or share cells.
  • Each snake is exactly 8 cells long.
  • The head (starting cell) of each snake is marked with a white circle in the grid.
  • Digits along snakes increase from head to tail (Thermosnakes!).

Example: Below are two 8-cell long Thermosnakes.

Great fun, even though I left some easy deductions unspotted for embarrassingly long. The cleverness of the construction was very enjoyable all along the solve

I cannot get anywhere in this puzzle without bifurcation and I'm not sure what I'm missing but I don't want to give up on it!

Nordy: I promise it’s possible without it! (Although in snake puzzles you often have to look a little bit ahead). Feel free to message me on the CTC discord @Nordy

very cool (as thermosnakes can be), completely agree with Piatato's "not too hard as long as one is careful", sadly I wasn't careful enough on my first try :o).
