Canal View Sudoku

Shade some cells such that all shaded cells are orthogonally connected and no 2x2 area is entirely shaded. A number in a colored cell indicates the total number of shaded cells connected in a straight line horizontally or vertically to the clue. A colored cell is never shaded.
Numbers cannot repeat in any orthogonally connected group of unshaded cells. A cell with a number in its top left corner is not shaded, and indicates that cell is part of an orthogonally connected group of unshaded cells that sum to the given total.
Solution code: Row 5 followed by Column 5, 18 digits total

Very good puzzle!
The canal view part was fairly approachable and very fun, but the killer sudoku after was quite tough for me (partly because I made some foolish errors).

I think KNT was in a very charitable mood when he set this. I kept expecting to grind to a halt but I never did, which makes a nice change.

Is there a negative constraint on the circled numbers? E.G. if a non shaded and non circled cell is 1, can it have exactly 1 shaded cell next to it in a straight line?

A very nice ride on these canals ! One of your easiest puzzles I think, but still very interesting. One little step was a little more difficult than the rest in the endgame for me.
