Sunken Treasure Chaos Construction

(Published on 24. July 2022, 18:58 by Schwupel)

I recently watched the CTC video of "Vault Construction" by the_cogito and really enjoyed the vault logic. Inspired by that I tried my hands on setting a puzzle with the same rule set. What you can see below is the result and now my second puzzle ever.

Rules:
Place the digits 1 to 9 once each into every row, column and region. Regions need to be discovered and consist of 9 orthogonally connected cells. Pink cages are "vaults". Digits MAY repeat within a vault. Any digits within a vault must not appear in any cells orthogonally adjacent to that vault. The largest digit in any given vault is equal to the number of distinct regions passing through that vault.

Solution code: Column 3 from top to bottom with region borders as |. Such that a column of a regular sudoku with consecutive digits from 1 to 9 would be written as 123|456|789.

Excellent puzzle! Loved everything about it. The region building and the vault restriction worked beautiful together. Thank you

That was a hard one, but I loved the logic around the number of regions in the 2 big cages which cascaded powerfully in the region building. You really have a lot of potential in region construction (chaos, yin yang...) ! Keep them coming !

* Very motivating comment. Thank you very much. I might try my hands on a chaos construction again for the next one!

Had a lot of fun solving this, and a cool talk with the setter afterwards discussing this puzzle. I agree with another comment that the momentum was nice. Thanks!

Great puzzle! Some tricky logic but well telegraphed so it kept the momentum going all through to the end really nicely. A very solid construction. Thanks!
