Sudoku Variants Series (375) - Odd-Even Thermometers

(Published on 13. July 2022, 02:00 by Richard)

For this Sudoku Variants Project I have planned to publish a different Sudoku variant every week. I will see how long it takes before I am running out of ideas.

Odd-Even Thermometers
Apply classic sudoku rules.
The digits in each thermometer are, from the bulb to the end, all different and placed in increasing order. Digits in a thermometer are either all even, or all odd.

This puzzle can be solved in a complete logical way, but contains a few tricky steps at the start. I have written those steps as a hidden comment, for learning purposes.

Inspiration for this type comes from triliton13 and Willy Wonka.

Solve online in F-Puzzles or CtC-app (thx Steven R!)

Here you find another Odd-Even Thermo from djorr.

Solution code: Row 7, followed by column 8.

Very nice puzzle. I personally found it closer to 3 stars than 4 star difficulty but lots of fun nonetheless

Very nice!

On an unrelated note: You might like to have a look at this: https://logic-masters.de/Raetselportal/Raetsel/zeigen.php?id=000AF6
Maybe even a new variant for the list?

Reply: Hi Dutchie! Thanks for the solve and your compliments! :-)
Currently I have a lot of ideas and half finished setups for new SVS-puzzles, but good ideas are always welcome. So I will definitely take a look at your puzzle, although my first impression is that the rules are quite complicated. ;-)
Maybe the closer look will prove me wrong? ;-)

It's mainly the wording of the rules that makes it seem complicated, but i didn't know how else to say it. I'm not that good with descriptions :/ Basically they're X-sums, but instead of starting at the start of the row, the first digit indicates where it starts.
